Grinding Gear Games has revealed the first major details for Path of Exile 2's upcoming Patch 0.5.3, and the update is shaping up to be one of the most significant endgame improvements since the launch of the Dawn of the Hunt expansion. Following the extensive league reworks introduced in Patch 0.5.0, the developers are now focusing on improving rewards, fixing long-standing issues, and ensuring that every endgame mechanic feels worth investing time into.

From major Abyss and Breach buffs to substantial Delirium fixes and Expedition improvements, Patch 0.5.3 aims to make underperforming endgame systems more rewarding while giving players greater control over difficulty and loot scaling.

Abyss Receives Long-Awaited Reward Improvements

One of the biggest winners in Patch 0.5.3 is Abyss, a mechanic many players felt lagged behind other endgame farming strategies.

The centerpiece of the rework is the Vessel of Kulemak, Abyss's pinnacle boss encounter. Previously, the unique ring Grip of Kulemak could roll a variety of modifiers, but many of them were considered weak or undesirable. GGG has completely overhauled the ring's modifier pool, removing unpopular options, adding new powerful affixes, and combining several existing effects to create more attractive outcomes.

In addition, players who defeat the Vessel of Kulemak at full strength will now always receive an Ancient Corrupted Currency item. This guaranteed reward should significantly increase the boss's value and make difficult encounters feel more worthwhile.

The developers also confirmed that additional unique items are planned for the boss in future updates, addressing one of the community's biggest criticisms that the encounter simply lacks enough exclusive rewards.

Abyssal Depths are also receiving important fixes. A bug that occasionally prevented rare monsters from spawning has been resolved, and the final large chest found within Abyssal Depths will now always drop Corrupted Currency. Combined with the Kulemak improvements, Abyss should become a much more competitive farming option in the endgame.

Breach Farming Gets Bigger and Better

Breach has been one of the most profitable mechanics in Path of Exile 2, but high-tier Swarm Fortresses often felt underwhelming compared to the investment required.

Patch 0.5.3 addresses this issue by significantly increasing the size of Breach biomes. Larger zones mean more swarms per Breachstone and substantially higher monster density, creating greater opportunities for loot generation.

GGG is also improving the modifiers granted when multiple Breachstones are used together. These enhanced modifiers are designed to make revealed biomes more exciting and rewarding.

Some modifiers will now grant new abilities to Ailith during Swarm Fortress encounters. One showcased example, Nemesis, periodically generates rare monsters throughout the encounter, increasing both danger and rewards.

The developers have already confirmed that Breach improvements will continue in Patch 0.5.4, including additional Ailith abilities and upgrades to Breach Tablets that further enhance swarm encounters. For dedicated Breach farmers, the future looks extremely promising.

Delirium Finally Gets Critical Bug Fixes

Delirium is another mechanic receiving substantial attention in Patch 0.5.3, largely due to several bugs that prevented the league from functioning as intended.

Perhaps the most significant issue involved monsters spawned by special Delirium shards. Previously, these enemies could never become magic or rare monsters. This was especially problematic for Purple Mirror Shards, which were intended to create some of the most rewarding enemies in the entire game.

After the update, monsters spawned from Purple Mirror Shards will properly scale into rare variants, dramatically increasing both challenge and loot potential.

Another bug prevented multiple Purple Mirror Shards from generating additional elite monsters as intended. This issue has now been fixed, meaning players can expect significantly more elite enemies in heavily invested Delirium maps.

Large Mirrors also suffered from a major scaling problem. Maps opened with 150% to 200% Deliriousness frequently failed to generate Delirium monsters or shard encounters correctly, making the highest difficulty levels paradoxically less rewarding than lower-tier content. This bug has now been resolved.
