Me and my wife just locked in a package deal there, caught it cheap for two and couldn't say no. Neither of us has ever been and we're going in completely blind. What's actually worth seeing, what do people do there besides the beach? The other big thing for us is finding a place to rent a car. We drive ourselves everywhere we travel, doesn't matter where we end up.

Malta doesn't look like much on a map but there's more crammed into it than you'd expect. Valletta's worth a full day easy, the whole city center is fortifications and baroque architecture one after another. Mdina's another one not to miss, it's a walled medieval city that feels like it stopped somewhere in the 15th century. And if there's time, hop on the ferry to Gozo for a day, the landscape there feels completely different from the main island.

With somewhere like Malta, most people assume they can just walk everywhere or figure it out as they go since it's small, but the geography makes that harder than it sounds. The main spots are pretty spread out and not always connected in a convenient way. You can rent a car in Malta here: https://getrentacar.com/en-US/malta . Driving there is on the left, which catches people out if they're not expecting it. The older parts of the island have some pretty tight roads, so going with something smaller saves the hassle.
