For citizen developers and professional developers alike, earning a Power Platform certification is a fantastic way to validate your low-code application development skills. Microsoft offers several credentials, but two of the most significant have major updates in 2026 that you need to know about. The first is the Microsoft Certified: Power Platform Developer Associate, which is the core certification for those who design, develop, and troubleshoot solution components using Power Apps, Power Automate, and Dataverse. This certification was recently updated on March 19, 2026, so be sure to review the latest study guide.

However, the most critical information concerns the PL-600: Microsoft Power Platform Solution Architect exam and its associated Solution Architect Expert certification. Both the exam and the Expert certification will be permanently retired on June 30, 2026. After this date, it will no longer be possible to earn or renew this credential. This is a major change for the Power Platform ecosystem. The certification was designed for experienced architects to facilitate design decisions across development, integration, security, and licensing. If you have been working toward this certification, the clock is ticking. For everyone else, focusing on the Developer Associate or the Functional Consultant (PL-200) path is the strategy going forward. Microsoft's retirement of the Solution Architect Expert shows a shift in their Power Platform certification strategy, making it essential to stay informed and adapt your career plans accordingly.
