So, I'm drowning in product images. Seriously, we've got multiple shots of each item, different angles, lifestyle shots, detail shots… it's a mess trying to keep them organized and linked to the right products on our website. Has anyone implemented a product information system primarily for its digital asset management capabilities? I'm wondering if it's worth the investment just to get a handle on all these images, even if we don't fully utilize the other PIM features right away. Any advice or experiences to share?

Using a PIM for digital asset management alone is definitely an interesting angle. It might be a bit like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut, but if you plan to expand your usage later, it could be a good move. Here's an article that looks at some of the best PIM software for e-commerce: https://growthfolks.io/software/best-pim-software-for-ecommerce/. Some systems offer great features for organizing and distributing assets, which could be worth the cost if images are a big pain point. Also make sure it is not too expensive to start using such a system!

It's curious how the initial intended use of a tool can sometimes evolve over time. A system purchased for one specific purpose might reveal unexpected benefits or solve unforeseen problems in other areas of the business, or become completely obsolete. This can happen with anything. These second-order effects from systems are hard to quantify.
