I honestly didn't think much of it when it first happened, which feels pretty stupid looking back now. I work at a distribution center out in Queens and about three months ago I was helping unload a truck when a pallet jack slipped and I had to jerk my body to avoid getting pinned—felt something pop in my lower back but I just finished my shift because you know how it is, you don't want to seem like you're slacking. Fast forward to now and I've had two rounds of physical therapy, my doctor says it's a herniated disc, and I can barely bend down to tie my shoes without shooting pain down my leg. The insurance company sent me to one of their doctors who basically said it's a muscle strain and tried to cap my benefits early, which is ridiculous considering I can't even do half my job duties anymore. I've been going in circles trying to appeal it myself but their paperwork is designed to make you give up. Someone at my church went through something similar with a construction injury and told me not to waste any more time trying to handle it alone, that I should find a workplace back injury attorney New York to deal with these people because they're clearly not going to take me seriously unless I have someone on my side. I'm just worried about the cost of hiring someone and whether it's too late to get this back on track.
