A Tibet Travel Permit (TTP) is an official document required for all foreign travelers who wish to enter the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. Issued by the Tibet Tourism Bureau, the permit is mandatory in addition to a Chinese visa and is typically arranged through a registered travel agency rather than applied for individually. Travelers must provide copies of their passport and Chinese visa, and the agency submits the application on their behalf. The permit usually takes about 8–15 days to process and is checked when boarding flights or trains to Lhasa and upon arrival in Tibet. This system allows authorities to regulate tourism and ensure that visitors travel with approved itineraries and guides while exploring the region’s unique cultural and natural attractions.
