I am terribly shy about writing first, always afraid that I will be ignored or that someone will write something rude. Because of this, my profile has been sitting there for months, and communication has not started. Has anyone overcome this barrier and found a normal person on dating sites? How did you deal with it?

I was exactly the same — I could browse profiles for weeks, but I didn't dare to write first. Then I registered on website and decided: it's now or never. I started with short compliments like "You have a very sincere smile in your photo" or "I see you also love the mountains — where did you go last time?" Most people responded warmly because they were also looking for communication. I met a girl who was shy herself, but my first message broke the ice. We've been together for seven months now, and we laugh when we remember how scared we both were.
