I’m planning to upgrade my home theatre setup and I’m a bit confused about which AV receiver would be the best option.

Right now, I’m mainly interested in 7 channel AV receivers for theatre / home theatre AV receiver, but I’ve heard from a lot of people that if you plan to expand later, it’s better to go for a 9-channel home theater amplifier or even an 11-channel AV receiver.

I’ve checked multiple products — home theater receivers, home theatre audio receiver, home receiver theatre, and home theatre amplifiers, but it’s hard to find real comparisons or user feedback.

Goal is a pure cinema-grade sound, especially something that performs really well as a Dolby Atmos home theater receiver / Atmos home theater receiver.

My confusion right now:

Is it better to buy just an AVR, or a best amplifier for home theatre + receiver combo?

Also which brand gives the best value for money?

Things I’m focusing on:

• Future upgrade options (7.2 / 9.2)

For context:

Room size is around 14 × 18 ft, so I’m guessing 7.2 or 9 channels might be ideal — but would really appreciate expert suggestions.
