Vilitra belongs to a class of drugs known as phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. Its active ingredient, vardenafil, works by blocking the PDE5 enzyme, which is responsible for breaking down cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) in the body. By inhibiting PDE5, Vilitra helps relax the smooth muscles and increase blood flow to certain areas, particularly the penis, making it effective in treating erectile dysfunction (ED). This drug does not cause an automatic erection; sexual stimulation is still required for it to work. PDE5 inhibitors like Vilitra are generally taken before anticipated sexual activity and are available in various strengths for individual needs.
