I wanted to start a discussion about the common mistakes people make when using Yardi Implementation Services, especially in their first deployment. I’ve gone through two implementations now—once for a REIT and once for a regional property group—and both had lessons to teach.
The biggest pitfall? Underestimating the discovery and planning phase. Many firms assume the service provider will handle everything, but without a clear internal roadmap, even the best Yardi implementation services will struggle. Make sure you’ve clearly defined your workflows, data migration rules, and reporting expectations before kickoff.
Another mistake is skipping staff training. Yardi is not intuitive for every user. If your team isn't comfortable using it from day one, adoption will be slow and incomplete. Your implementation partner should offer role-specific training; if they don’t, that’s a red flag.
Lastly, avoid using generalized IT consultants who "also do Yardi." This platform is highly specialized. Trust me, hiring experts who only do Yardi implementation services is worth the extra cost.
Would love to hear your experiences—what worked and what didn’t? Let’s help others avoid these headaches.
