DIO meaning measures the length of time, on average, it takes a company to sell off its entire stock during a particular period. It demonstrates how well inventory is handled and forms part of the cash conversion cycle. Inventory that moves fast (with a lower DIO) is more beneficial for a company’s profitability and has better cash flow. If the DIO is high, it means products are sitting in inventory for a longer time which may require a business to spend additional money keeping them safe. The requirements for DIO are set based on what the industry expects.
