The reset password process for Gmail should be enough to reset or modify your password. i.e. "forgot password". To do this, you would have needed to have had a recovery option on your account set up, such as your cell phone number so that you can get a text. Below.
How to Reset Gmail Password
Enter a cell phone recovery number for Google to utilize for password reset. This is done by logging in and then clicking on the gear icon in the top right corner of the window. Click on "settings". Click on the "accounts" tab and then on "Google Account Settings".
