Children five years and under may have a high prevalence of scabies compared to older age groups . Since children less than 15 kg are not indicated for treatment with oral ivermectin 12mg due to a lack of safety evidence, topical creams such as permethrin or benzyl benzoate are used.
The safe use of ivermectin in adults and older children (aged 5 years and above) has been demonstrated in many studies, particularly in data provided by the Onchocerciasis Control Program.
