The broken pieces of the mace or javitri, which are extracted from the nutmeg shell, are referred to as blades. For obvious reasons, the histories of mace and nutmeg are intertwined, even though they have been discussed independently. Mace has a far lower output than nutmeg, which makes it more valuable. One measure of mace is produced from a heap of fruit big enough to yield one hundred measures of nutmeg spice.
