Zhewitra 20 is a medication that contains Vardenafil as its active ingredient. Vardenafil belongs to a class of drugs known as phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. It is primarily used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED), a condition in which a man has difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection sufficient for sexual activity.

Here's how Zhewitra 20 (Vardenafil) works to treat erectile dysfunction:

Inhibition of PDE5 Enzyme: The main physiological process leading to an erection involves the release of nitric oxide (NO) in the erectile tissue during sexual stimulation. Nitric oxide activates an enzyme called guanylate cyclase, which results in increased levels of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP).

Relaxation of Smooth Muscles: The increased levels of cGMP cause the smooth muscles in the erectile tissue of the penis to relax. This relaxation allows blood to flow into the penile arteries, causing an erection.

PDE5 Breaks Down cGMP: PDE5 is an enzyme that breaks down cGMP. In individuals with erectile dysfunction, there is an overactivity of PDE5, leading to a premature breakdown of cGMP and a difficulty in maintaining an erection.

Vardenafil as a PDE5 Inhibitor: Vardenafil in Zhewitra 20 mg works by inhibiting the action of PDE5. By doing so, it helps to maintain higher levels of cGMP in the erectile tissue for a longer duration.

Enhanced Blood Flow: By blocking PDE5 and preserving cGMP levels, Vardenafil promotes the relaxation of smooth muscles and enhances blood flow to the penis during sexual arousal.

Sexual Stimulation Required: It's important to note that Vardenafil, like other PDE5 inhibitors, does not cause spontaneous erections. Sexual stimulation is still required to initiate the process that leads to the release of nitric oxide and the activation of the cGMP pathway.
