Along with Zopiclone 10 mg is one of the so-called "Z drugs" and was first made available as an insomnia therapy in the latter half of the 1980s. These medications were created as less dangerous substitutes for benzodiazepines, which have a high potential for addiction and dependence. The first substance created that has a distinct chemical structure from benzodiazepines yet binds to the same cell receptors is Zopiclone 10 mg. It is frequently referred to be a short-acting hypnotic due to how quickly it leaves the body. Its 'half-life', or the amount of time it takes for the drug's concentration in the body to fall by half, is around 5 hours (within a range of 3.5 to 6.5 hours). The half-life is a little bit longer in older people, at about 7 hours.
