The length of alimony payments in New Jersey depends on the type of alimony awarded. Temporary alimony typically lasts for the duration of the Divorce Case Alimony proceedings. Rehabilitative alimony usually lasts for two or three years, or until the lower-income spouse becomes self-supporting. Permanent alimony can last for an indefinite period of time, or until the death of one of the spouses.
