The Chicago referencing style contains two styles – notes and bibliography and author-date references. Such a citation style focuses on arts and humanities streams for citing sources in assignment papers. The citations are placed in footnotes or endnotes. However, the author-date style is mainly used in scientific papers. The such referencing style uses parenthetical in-text citations and a reference list at the end.

So, if you're wondering how to use Chicago referencing style, read this blog –

  1. Citing sources with notes

To cite sources in the philosophy assignment help style, you must place a superscript number at the end of a sentence or clause after the punctuation mark, corresponding to a numbered footnote or endnote.

The citations can take the form of full notes or short notes. The usual rule is to use a full note for the first citation of each source and a short note for subsequent citations of the same source. The template for a full note in dissertation expert is –

  • Full note: Author full name, Book Title, subtitle, edition. (Place of publication, publisher, year), page numbers, URL.

  • Short note: Author last name, shortened book title, page number(s)

  1. Creating a Chicago-style bibliography

The bibliography lists full references for all your sources. It appears at the end of your paper. Here the author names are inverted in the bibliography, and the author's last name alphabetizes the sources. Each source is listed on a new line, with a hanging indent applied to sources that run over multiple lines.

If a source has multiple authors, list up to 10 in the bibliography. If there are 11 or more, list the first seven followed by 'et al.'

Here is an example –

Berman, Russell A, "Modernism and Bildungsroman: Thomas Mann's Magic Mountain", edited by Graham, Bartram, 77-92: Cambridge University Press, 2004.

The bibliography entries vary in format and changes. It follows the template – Author last name, first name, Book title: Subtitle Edition: Place of publication: Publisher, Year URL.
Here’s an example – Covey, Stephen. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, New York: Free Press, 1989.

  1. Author-date style in in-text citations

In the (social) sciences, you need to use the author-date style to make the sources appear in the text. Some citations appear in parentheses in the text. One of the author-date example citations –

"The success literature of the twentieth century is filled with social image consciousness, techniques, and quick fixes" (Covey 1989, 18)
