Fleas are a nuisance which all dog owners must deal with on a daily basis, no doubt; especially if your dog spends lots of time outdoors. While fleas can be very hard to get rid of, it is vital for your dogs (and owners) well being and overall health that you strive to get rid of the fleas and keep these pests under control.
When you need to get rid of the fleas on your dog, utilizing natural flea remedies are an excellent alternative to expensive and more harmful medications bought in pet stores; especially since many dogs can unknowingly be allergic to these products.
Dog natural flea remedies have several distinct advantages over the commercial products.
When choosing to use natural flea treatments you need not be concerned about chemical ingredients having harmful side effects in your dog. Often the strengths of the ingredients in these store bought flea shampoo's and flea dips can vary wildly.
Not to mention your local pet store or at your vet's office sells over-the-counter products which are typically far more expensive than any natural flea remedies for dogs.
There are many variations of home flea remedies for dogs, but the one natural flea repellent I have used for many years with great success is a mixture of 1 tablespoon brewers yeast and 1-2 garlic tablets mixed in the dogs food at least once daily. Twice daily if needed, but I never found it necessary. The fleas are quickly repelled by the smell of garlic in the dogs mouth and skin secretions. I believe you can buy this mixture in a tablet form, but since it is far more economical I just buy them separately at the health food store and mix them together in the food to get rid of your dog's fleas.
