This is a low-powered miniature spotting scope or telescope that you hold in your hand like you would hold binoculars. The difference between a monocular and binoculars is that with monoculars you only use one eye to look through it like you would a telescope. A monocular golf scope shares characteristics with both a spotting scope and binoculars but is much smaller. There are some of them that are no thicker than a good ink pen or no larger than your thumb. They are so small you can easily put them in your purse or in your pocket. Many people choose to use a monocular when binoculars or spotting scopes are too big to take along.
You should consider buying a monocular when you want to just take a peek at something to make sure what it is or you want to measure distances. You can use them to see what that sign says across the shopping mall, if hunting you can tell in the distance if what you see is a deer or some other animal or object, or to see how far away your golf ball is from the flag. You can also consider a monocular like a magnifier.
The scope of a monocular golf scope is normally a compact 5x magnification that has an internal reticle that can make estimating the distance to the flag easy and quick. It will usually have a range of fifty to two hundred yards. One type of monocular golf scope that you can buy is the Bushnell 5x20 Golf Scope Rangefinder Monocular.
This particular model has several high-performance features that include:
• A convenient focus-free imaging system • For close-up views there is a 5x magnification • For precision ranging there is an internal reticle • It is pocket-portable • Lightweight • Waterproof
In order to use this monocular golf scope correctly to find the distance to the flag you will have to line the base of the flag up with the reticle bottom line. Then you can decide how far it is to the flag by reading the numbers on the reticle. Make sure that you are reading the numbers that align with the top of the flagstick to get the correct distance. When on the golf course you would look through the 5x focus-free monocular golf scope to determine the distance to the flag in either meters or yards.
With the Bushnell 5x20 Golf Scope Rangefinder Monocular it has a focus-free eyepiece so you do not have to worry about focusing it before you can determine the distance to the flag. The eyepiece has a rubber roll-down eyecup that is will exclude extraneous light and is designed for comfort.
