Thailand logged 19,843 new coronavirus cases and a record 235 new Covid-19 fatalities over the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry reported on Tuesday morning.There were 19,445 cases in the general population and 398 among prison inmates.On Monday, 22,806 Covid-19 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals.The Department of Disease Control reported later that the 235 new fatalities ranged from 20-100 years old, with 64% aged 60 and over. One fatality was a pregnant woman, two died at home in Bangkok and Narathiwat, and eight had no underlying diseases.
Of the new deaths, 142 either lived in or visited outbreak areas, 37 contracted the disease from acquaintances and 31 got it from family members.Bangkok had 111 new deaths while its adjacent provinces logged 35 – Samut Sakhon (14), Nonthaburi (10), Samut Prakan (6) and Pathum Thani (5).
Southern provinces recorded 13 new fatalities – Pattani (9), Narathiwat (3) and Satun (1).
The Northeast saw 18 more deaths – Nakhon Ratchasima (3), Ubon Ratchathani (3), Nong Khai (2), Si Sa Ket (2), Khon Kaen (2), Kalasin (1), Mukdahan (1), Yasothon (1), Roi Et (1), Nong Bua Lam Phu (1) and Udon Thani (1).The North had 27 new fatalities – Phichit (13), Tak (3), Kamphaeng Phet (2), Sukhothai (2), Uthai Thani (2), Nakhon Sawan (2), Phitsanulok (1), Phetchabun (1) and Uttaradit (1).Central provinces saw 31 more deaths – Ayutthaya (7), Ratchaburi (6), Prachin Buri (5), Chachoengsao (4), Prachuap Khiri Khan (2), Chon Buri (2), Sa Kaeo (1), Trat (1), Nakhon Nayok (1), Phetchaburi (1) and Rayong (1).
The 19,843 new Covid-19 cases over the past 24 hours included 19,424 local infections and 21 imported cases.
Of the local infections, 14,832 were confirmed at hospitals and 4,592 via mass testing.
