One of the protesters I met was 20-year-old Corey, who was born and raised in Bristol. He's a semi-professional basketball player who told me that he doesn't "feel that comfortable as a black man in our society". When I asked him why, he said because he cannot show all of his personality outside his home. He has been brought up not to be too loud, or too passionate, or come across as intimidating.
Since he was small, his father Vernon - who represented Great Britain at the 1988 Olympic Games and was a member of the Gospel choir which sang at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in 2018 - told him that he needed to be more aware than his non-black friends, about how he is perceived at school or out in public.
