Program 101


Class duration: Four Months
Learning time: 32 Hrs ~ 64Hrs
Suggested practice time: 60 Hrs~120 Hrs (minimum ½ hour every day)

 
Learning Objectives: As you complete this learning area, you should understand and know how to do the following:
 
  • Silk-reeling drills (group A & group B)
  • Two basic stances & drills
  • Four Basic Movement single forms, their small drills & martial applications
  • Four-Basic-Movement Routine (four sides)

101-1: Warm-up 

Silk-Reeling Drills:  

Group A:
  1. Holding ball left side and open right side
  2. Right hand clockwise circling
  3. Right hand clockwise plus small circling
  4. Right hand counter-clockwise circling
  5. Right hand counter-clockwise plus small circling
  6. Double hands counter-clockwise circling
Group B: (opposite side to Group A)
  1. Holding ball right side and open left side
  2. Left hand counter-clockwise circling
  3. Left hand counter-clockwise circling plus small circling
  4. Left hand clockwise circling
  5. Left hand clockwise plus small circling
  6. Double hands clockwise circling
101-2: Chen Style Two Stances
  • Primary: side bow stance (left & right)
  • Secondary: ball stance (side, front & back)
Stance drill:
  1. Primary stance figure 8
  2. Secondary stance back and forth 
101-3: Chen Style Four Basic Movements: 
Basic One: Warrior pounds mortar
  • Small drill: lu, throw, liao
  • Application: lu, throw, peng, flap, groin strike, knee & chin 
Basic two: Lazily tying coat
  • Small drill: thumb & pinky coil, hold & knee
  • Application: elbow, liao & knee, elbow 
Basic three: Six sealing four closing
  • Small drill: double hand circle
  • Application: lock, jie, lu, an 
Basic four: Single whip
  • Small drill: rotate the ball, single hand circle
  • Application: twist the head, chop the neck 
Sequence Drill:
  • Four-Basic-Movement Routine (four sides) 
Review questions:
  1. What are the two basic stances of Chen Style Taiji?
  2. What is the ending posture of each of the four movements?
  3. What are the martial applications of each of the four movements?
  4. What are the small drills of each movement? Can you do them?

By learning some Taiji movement right from beginning to enhance the students’ enthusiasm and at the same time to gain a sense of achievement.

The required courses (101, 201 & 301) are one year program and designed for those who want to learn enough to keep fit and who want to lay good foundation for advanced learning.
